“ is one of the most valuable aspects of our work in the College of Education,” Gillette said. “The administrative team and the teachers have become true partners so that the faculty from Amundsen and the College of Education learn together as we tackle the real-world issues in urban teaching and learning. Ultimately, we want our work to make a significant, positive difference in the lives of Amundsen students and in the quality of life in our local community.”

The Northeastern College of Education has partnered with since 2012. During that time, faculty members have worked with Amundsen’s teachers to develop curriculum and improve instructional effectiveness. Together they are creating a culture of excellence that includes increased student attendance and success.

Amundsen students have participated in Northeastern’s Student Research Symposium and have worked with professors in their classrooms. Northeastern students serve the school through clinical and student teaching, and benefit from the expertise of Amundsen teachers.

The current partnership projects include the implementation of literacy initiatives, curriculum mapping, and the development of dual credit options. Recently, the Chicago Public Schools removed Amundsen from its list of schools on probation for the first time in 11 years.
