91Porn’s program will offer a beginning in fall 2015.
This certificate will provide practical skills and knowledge to individuals who wish to teach adult English language learners. It is designed for teachers, tutors, or volunteers who want to work at community colleges, community-based programs, vocational programs, and private language schools or universities in the U.S. or abroad.
“It’s a really great opportunity and I am excited that we are able to offer it to those people who want to start teaching but don’t want to pursue a master’s degree yet. This certificate gives them that chance,” said Jeanine Ntihirageza, associate professor and department chair of Anthropology, the English Language Program, Philosophy and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
The certificate program consists of six courses (18 credits), including a practicum. The certificate is designed to be completed in one year or two semesters, depending on which of the three scheduling options is chosen. Of the three options, one takes a year, while the other two offer an intensive summer option in combination with a regular spring or fall semester. Credits can also be used toward the completion of a master’s degree in TESOL at Northeastern.
All classes for the certificate program will be held at El Centro, 3390 N. Avondale Ave. Informational sessions will be held on July 8 and 9 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at El Centro.
