The requires all institutions of higher education to provide state licensure information for programs that are designed to meet educational requirements for a specific license and are required for employment in an occupation, or are marketed or advertised to meet those requirements. Professional licensure refers to specific standards required to legally practice in a profession. Since professional licensure is generally regulated at the state level, it is often necessary to obtain a separate license for each state in which one wishes to practice. Current and prospective students are encouraged to contact their State’s licensure authority to review all licensure and certification requirements for the states in which they intend to seek employment; students who intend to change states should review their new states' requirements by contacting their new state's licensure authority. However, enrollment is possible if the student can attest that they will seek employment in a state where the institution satisfies the educational requirements. Professional Licensure/Certification General Disclosure

As of August 1, 2024, NEIU's Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program, combined with its Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BSA) program, meets the CPA licensure educational requirements set by all U.S. state and territorial Boards of Accountancy, except for California, with American Samoa not listed as having a state board according to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). Graduates of the MSA program with bachelor's degrees from other institutions are advised to seek guidance from the ABLF department to evaluate their background and determine their eligibility for CPA licensure in various states and territories. This disclosure is current as of August 1, 2024, and does not encompass any changes in state or territory requirements subsequent to this date. It is advisable for students to directly communicate with the licensing authority in their respective state or territory to authenticate all licensure and certification stipulations applicable to the jurisdictions in which they intend to practice. Black @ NEIU

This event is for students who want to become more acquainted with resources, events, staff, and faculty that are available for Black students.  Come out for fun games, community, food, and get set up for success.

Black Student Success Committee Meeting

Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. via zoom

We meet bi-weekly to discuss how we will support Black students at NEIU. This meeting is composed of students, faculty, staff, and administrators from across our four campuses. If you would like to become a committee member, please us at bssc@neiu.edu.

The Black Student Success Committee is dedicated to instituting programs to help students achieve their goals in and out of the classroom. As we navigate through the pandemic, some of our initiatives will move to a virtual setting for the time being. More information will be shared as it becomes available. Campus Climate Study

During the 2019-2020 school year, 91Porn conducted a campus climate and culture assessment to evaluate its living, learning and working environment. The Black Student Success Committee is proud to have spearheaded NEIU's Campus Climate Study, the results of which are scheduled to be shared during the Fall 2020 term.

Laptop Loaner Program

In the age of digital learning, computers and reliable internet accessibility are a  necessity. We want to help students by providing access to the appropriate tools. Black Professional Membership Fees Initiative

The goal of the Black Professional Membership Initiative is to help Black-identified Northeastern students receive funding to cover a year-long membership fee to a professional organization that supports Black-identified people. 

Student Professional Conference Attendance Initiative 

Professional development opportunities are a pillar of the Black Student Success Committee. Every year, the committee aims to send a group of students to a national conference to help them get first hand experience in networking, developmental workshops and student leadership. Our hope is that, in nurturing our student leaders, they will gain valuable life skills to continue to build our campus community and student engagement.

Black Student Network Luncheon

The Black Student Network Luncheon is an opportunity for Black students to learn about the various resources that exist on campus to help support them on their journey. It is our hope that by mingling with faculty and staff of color the students will find representation and mentorship necessary for success. This event will take place remotely this year. More information will be shared soon.

African Diaspora Study Abroad Trip

Studying abroad can be a life changing experience. Education and cultural immersion are essential parts of transformative learning. We want you to be able to expand your knowledge and cultural competency while at Northeastern and beyond. 

My Black NEIU…

Higher education is largely about creating spaces and.or finding your tribe. My Black NEIU… gives prospective students from neighboring high schools the opportunity to learn more about the Black students and Black organizations on NEIU’s campus. These high school students get the opportunity to interact with current Black students from various majors, learn about what the Northeastern experience is like and give the next generation the opportunity to see themselves as young, college-bound scholars.

Mission Statement

The Black Student Success Committee is a collaboration between the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs and acts as an advisory body to the University President. The purpose of this committee is to identify barriers impacting Black student recruitment, persistence, retention and graduation. This committee, which is comprised of Northeastern faculty, staff and students, works to create and maintain an environment that is conducive to a positive and enriching experience for Black students.

Dr. Evans completed her Ph.D. in Education Policy Studies and B.S. in Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Program Development at DePaul University.

Andrea E. Evans, Ph. D. is the Director of the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies at 91Porn. In addition, she holds an appointment as a full professor in the Department of Leadership, Literacy, and Development in the Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education. Dr. Evans has spent more than 25 years in Illinois education. Before coming to NEIU, Dr. Evans served as the Dean of the College of Education at Governors State University.  Also, she has served as an administrator and/or professor at other Illinois institutions including Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Evans is a published scholar in the area of educational leadership, diversity, and equity, and recently served on Illinois State Board of Education’s State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board (SEPLB). Prior to her work in academia, Dr. Evans worked for 11 years as a high school science teacher and alternative school administrator in the Chicago area.

Online education isn’t for everyone, but for the right student the flexibility and convenience of online courses can be life changing. The most successful online students are highly motivated and can manage their time well to get their coursework done without many reminders. They are comfortable with using a computer, enjoy communicating with others in writing, and have reliable access to the Internet.
