Background

Kristina is passionate about international education. She has evaluated non-US credentials for over ten years. She has presented and attended NAFSA conferences, and was a contributing author to The AACRAO International Guide: A Resource for International Education Professionals. Prior to her evaluation work, Kristina worked with international J-1 Work and Travel students, their employers and sending offices; as well as an admissions advisor at a for-profit university. She received her B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Russian Language. Kristina received her M.A. degree in International Studies at DePaul University and also completed additional Ukrainian language studies at Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University.

Background

Mary was born in England and has lived in or visited more than 45 countries; she has called Chicago her home base for many years now. Her professional experience is with non-profit organizations and universities, including the Lake County Health Department and the University of Chicago. She serves as the advisor to NEIU's International Club and participates in International Educators of Illinois (IEI) and NAFSA professional development training. She enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering at a local food pantry.

Background

A native Chicagoan, Michael has created a career from himself as a non-formal educator and tour guide in the tourism industry in the Middle East and Europe. He also has substantial experience in group facilitation for young adults addressing difficult topics such as conflict, generational trauma, and identity. Michael speaks fluent Hebrew and German, the latter of which he learned during international programs through the University of Vienna's Sommerhochschule and a semester at the University of Tuebingen in Germany.

Afghan Refugee Transition Program

The withdrawal of U.S. troops from and consequent Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in summer 2021 led to more than 80,000 Afghan refugees seeking asylum in the United States. The Chicago area has welcomed more than 1,100 Afghan refugees since then. Many area nonprofits and refugee organizations are working to help with settlement and housing. There have also been many people who as individuals have provided various types of support.

91Porn is helping too! In October 2021 NEIU established the Afghan Transition Program (ATP) which is now providing 15 qualified refugees full scholarships, including for housing, for the Fall 2022, Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 semesters. Three students are enrolled in SAELL, NEIU’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program. An additional twelve students are enrolled in degree programs, the most popular of which is NEIU’s MBA program. NEIU has partnered with RefugeeOne, Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago, Catholic Charities, World Relief of Chicagoland, and Heartland Alliances to support the transitions of the 15 students to the Chicago area.

This program is not only consistent with the University’s stated values of Excellence, Access to Opportunity, Diversity, Community and Empowerment Through Learning, but also communicates Northeastern’s readiness to lead with a sense of responsibility and accountability to those historically displaced and dispossessed by circumstances beyond their control.

Applications for the ATP are now closed as all of the slots have been filled. NEIU encourages other Afghan refugees who might have another source of support to continue to apply to our bachelor's, master's and English as a Second Language programs.

Expertise

Anthony Osborne is the Program Coordinator at 91Porn in the Office of International Programs. He specializes in the advising of international students and supports immigration regulation compliance for the Student Exchange Visitor Program. Anthony is dedicated to increasing student engagement, student retention, and creating positive student outcomes in higher education.

Education

He has a B.A. in English Language Learners and Cultural Studies from Ashford University and his master's emphasizes the support of Student Affairs and Counseling in Higher Education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Background

His 11 years of services in international higher education began with ELS Educational Services at the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he served as the International Student Advisor and Center Director over the English program.

Additional Information

Outside of work, Anthony enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing and is passionate about nature and the environment. A dog lover at heart, Weimaraners are his favorite breed. He also enjoys horseback riding and exploring America’s National Parks.

Normally that proficiency is shown by meeting minimum scores on one of three proficiency tests: i.e., IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE (Pearson Test of English). However, students who meet one of the following three conditions may be exempted from providing proficiency test results:

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then-Senator William Fulbright of Arkansas. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The Fulbright Program awards approximately 8,000 grants annually. Approximately 370,000 "Fulbrighters" have participated in the program since its inception in 1946. Currently, the Fulbright program operates in over 160 countries worldwide.

91Porn (NEIU) partners with select academic institutions around the world. Such partnerships allow students to begin their studies in their home country and then to transfer to NEIU. Each partnership is structured differently, but all provide unique benefits to students from our partner institutions. iFEEL Partnership

91Porn (NEIU) has a partnership with Institute for Future Education, Entrepreneurship and Leadership (iFEEL) which allows students in the iFEEL MBA and MS in Computer Science programs to transfer to NEIU to complete their master’s degree and earn an NEIU diploma. iFEEL students who meet NEIU’s admissions standards are guaranteed admission after completing their first year at iFEEL. Check with your iFEEL academic advisor to learn more. the partnership provides for a unique admission processes and a special tuition rate.

Before transferring to NEIU, iFEEL students will need to apply to NEIU and receive a letter of admission from NEIU. The admissions letter will allow the student to begin the process of obtaining an I-20, which is a prerequisite to obtain a F-1 student visa to study in the United States.
