Some JCU courses will require you to have studied specific Queensland Year 12 subjects in Science and/or Mathematics, in addition to the requirement of Queensland Year 12 English. These are generally referred to as prerequisites. If you have not completed these Queensland Year 12 subjects or their equivalents, JCU Prep can assist you to complete the required bridging courses.
The following subjects are available within JCU Prep:
BR0200 Mathematics A1
BR0201 Essential Maths
This subject is designed for students who did not complete or did not achieve at least a C in Units 3 and 4 of the Queensland Year 12 General Mathematics subject or equivalent, and who require General Mathematics as a prerequisite for a JCU degree program.
In , you will study foundational mathematics concepts, including arithmetic and algebra, applied geometry, particularly perimeter, area, and volume; trigonometry; Pythagoras; and cartesian planes.
BR0202 Preparatory Maths
This subject is designed for students who did not complete or did not achieve at least a C in Units 3 and 4 of the Queensland Year 12 Mathematics Methods subject or equivalent, and who require Mathematics Methods as a prerequisite for a JCU degree program.
In , you will develop basic arithmetic and algebra skills with applications including fractions. The subject covers functions, including linear and quadratic with graph sketching, trigonometry, and simultaneous equations, as well as providing an introduction to logarithms and exponential functions, and calculus with applications.
BR0300 Essential Science
This subject is designed for students who did not complete or did not achieve at least a C in Units 3 and 4 of the Queensland Year 12 Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Earth Science subjects or equivalent, and who require one of these subjects as a prerequisite for a JCU degree program within the health sciences.
In , you will develop knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for active participation in the 21st century. You will have the opportunity to develop investigative skills through devising and implementing investigations; inquiring and determining answers about natural or scientific phenomena; expressing positions that are scientifically informed; evaluating the validity of conclusions drawn by others about scientific matters; and reflecting on the factors that influence the development of scientific knowledge.
