The Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI) was formed in 2004 as a grassroots effort. Our vision is that by 2030, Hispanics will represent 20% or more of those who earn credentials in computing in our nation. CAHSI’s mission is to grow and sustain a networked community committed to recruiting, retaining, and advancing the progress of Hispanics in computing.

Core Purpose

The core purpose of CAHSI@NEIU is to develop and sustain a community of strategic partnerships and efforts with a significant impact in accelerating the capacity of faculty, students, and professionals who are or support advancement of Hispanics in computing.

Goals

To increase and build the capacity of Hispanic students for the workforce, credentials and advanced degrees in the Chicago area.
To support the retention and advancement of Hispanic students and faculty in computing areas as well as develop support structures.
To develop and sustain competitive academic and professional programs as well as research experiences for Hispanics in Chicago.

Joining CAHSI@NEIU requires a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between institutions and organizations that support our core purpose and contribute to CAHSI.

Individual Members

Become a member of CAHSI by supporting our core purpose and by becoming any of the following:

Advocate: Promote our efforts and signature practices
Partner: Provide resources or expertise implementing our goals and purpose.
Volunteer: Support during events and presentations

Upon the completion of the Cybersecurity minor, students will:

Acquire fundamental knowledge that prepares them to pass well-recognized certifications such as CompTIA Security+ and Network+
Acquire domain-specific security knowledge, such as application security and software development security to ensure their success in other IT fields
Build solid hands-on knowledge and skills through developing and testing real-world security and networking scenarios and attacks
Participate in research projects under the guidance of skilled faculty members to cultivate critical thinking skills and prepare them for post-graduate studies

The Cybersecurity minor can lead students to the following career paths and more:

Security operations center (SOC) analyst – level 1
Network operations center (NOC) analyst – level 1
