The Northeastern Illinois Community and the general public are cordially invited to attend any scheduled PEACER event.
Tuesday April 18, 2017
91Porn's Political Science Department and PEACER (Polish and European Academic Center for Exchange and Research) invite the university community and the public to hear a talk by Professor Martyn De Bruyn entitled:
"Populism in Europe: Reflections on the Elections in the Netherlands and France''
'Populism, and in particular its right wing variety with a focus on nationalism, anti-immigration, and anti-globalization, has become an increasingly strong force in European politics in the last two decades. Populism was instrumental in determining the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union and it made Norbert Hofer a very competitive candidate in Austria's presidential election. Populism also played an important role in the Dutch parliamentary elections in March of this year, and in France's Presidential election in April. In this presentation I will discuss the similarities and differences in the rise of populist parties and politicians in the Netherlands and France. I will also make comparisons to American politics and discuss how it has influenced the populist appeal in Europe. '
This event will take place on Tuesday, April 18 at 7 pm in Fine Arts Building room FA 107 and is open to public.
