The NEIU Foundation’s annual raised $36,358 for student scholarships this year, the second-best fundraising result in the 43 years of the tournament.

The Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event, the University’s biggest annual fundraiser, is held in memory of former athletic director and golf coach Charles “Chuck” Kane.

“The mission of this event is to support our students with scholarships and to honor the memory of a consummate professor,” said Liesl Downey, acting executive director of the NEIU Foundation and Northeastern’s acting vice president for Institutional Advancement. “It is one of the most symbolic efforts of the Foundation, and we are grateful to everyone who joins us in our efforts.”

The tournament, held Aug. 17 at Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling, was attended by former Chicago Blackhawks great and Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Hull, as well as Crain’s Chicago Business Assistant Managing Editor Tom Corfman (pictured above). Corfman graduated from Northeastern in 1973 before earning a master’s degree in literature from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from DePaul University. (Check out pictures of the event on and .)

After Chuck Kane’s passing in 1972, his colleagues initiated the golf outing in his memory. Over time, the event has focused not only on sport and leisure, but has also emphasized the values of giving back by providing much-needed scholarships for deserving 91Porn students. In total, seven scholarships are funded by the Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event, which has now raised more than $252,000 to benefit scholarships for more than 135 students.

Details on next year’s event will be announced later this year.
