Nine 91Porn students presented their research at the (Illinois LSAMP) virtual spring symposium on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), which was held on Feb. 26 and 27. Eight students won awards for their poster presentations: 

  • Georgina Jaimes, undergraduate student in Psychology, first place in Environmental Science. Faculty advisor: Beth Reinke
  • Shagufta Khatoon, undergraduate student in Biology, first place in Molecular Biology. Faculty advisor: Cindy Voisine
  • Yuriy Khlopas, undergraduate student in Biology, tied for second place in General Biology. Faculty advisor: Cindy Voisine
  • Melissa Garcia Montes de Oca, undergraduate student in Chemistry, first place in General Biology. Faculty advisors: Cindy Voisine and Michael Stern
  • Kimberly Nu-Tall, undergraduate student in Biology, third place in General Biology. Faculty advisor: Cindy Voisine
  • Helena Puccini de Castro, undergraduate student in Chemistry and Biology, second place in Molecular Biology. Faculty advisor: Cindy Voisine
  • Bobbi Smigla, undergraduate student in Biology, and Nkosi Evans, undergraduate student in Biology, tied for second place in General Biology. Faculty advisor: Joel Olfelt

All of the students were part of the Student Center for Science Engagement's Summer Research and Professional Training Program in the summer of 2020, where they received a paid internship to work on their research with Northeastern faculty.
