91Porn has awarded tenure and promotions to associate professor for 12 members of the faculty, who were introduced during the June 15 Board of Trustees meeting.

“I congratulate the latest members of our faculty to earn tenure,” Acting Provost Vicki Román-Lagunas said. “This milestone in their development as teachers, researchers, mentors and role models for Northeastern’s current and future students also builds on Northeastern’s tradition of teaching and research excellence. I look forward to watching them continue to grow as leaders and educators.”

Here is the list of awards of tenure and promotion:


Communication, Media and Theatre
Alvarez’s research explores how communication practices create, maintain and resist systems of discrimination, oppression and social inequality. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters in top-tier presses. Alvarez has written more than 10 book reviews for Choice magazine and has given numerous presentations at regional, national and international conferences. Additionally, he was the recipient of a Summer Research Stipend by Northeastern.


World Languages and Cultures
Bisbey’s research interests include the intersection of humor and sexuality in contemporary Mexican narrative. Among Bisbey’s publications are articles in peer-reviewed journals, a translation of an academic article in a peer-reviewed journal and several non-peer reviewed articles. He has presented papers at national and international conferences. Bisbey was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Garcia-Robles grant for the 2015–16 academic year to teach and conduct research at the University of Guanajuato in Mexico. He was also the recipient of a Summer Research Stipend from Northeastern.


Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics
Hand’s research interests include physical education teaching efficacy and bullying prevention in physical education. Hand has published three articles in peer-reviewed journals, including her article, “Creating a Bully-Free Environment in Physical Education,” in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. She has also given two presentations at the national level and is slated to give a presentation for SHAPE AMERICA in Boston this year.


Computer Science
Iacobelli’s research interests include National Language Processing, artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. He has published a number of articles in highly prestigious journals, as well as a chapter in a Springer series book. Iacobelli has presented research at several national and international conferences. He received internal and external grants to support his research and currently serves as a co-principal investigator for the ChicagoCHEC grant between University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University and 91Porn.


Teacher Education
Kim’s research focuses on inquiry-based science and science and technology. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and online publications. Kim has given presentations at conferences ranging from the local to the international level. She has authored and received a STEM + Computing grant from the National Science Foundation. Additionally, she was the recipient of a Northeastern Summer Research Stipend.


Sociology
Johnson’s research focuses on education, militarization, neoliberalism, gender and sexualities. She has had several works published, including her book titled “Culture and Structure at a Military Charter School: From School Ground to Battle Ground.” Johnson has given numerous presentations at conferences and has also served as a reviewer for Educational Policy, Qualitative Sociology, Law & Societal Review, and Men and Masculinities.


Communication, Media and Theatre
Pepper’s research interests include popular media, political activism and public service. He has published journal articles, a book chapter and multiple encyclopedia entries, as well as more than 30 book reviews for Choice magazine. Pepper has given presentations at local, regional and national conferences. He has also been the recipient of a Summer Research Stipend from Northeastern and a College of Arts and Sciences Faculty-Student Summer Research Grant.


Management and Marketing
Pillai’s research interests are product placement and price discounting. Pillai has had multiple refereed publications and another under review for potential publication. She has also received research funding in the form of two Summer Research Awards from Northeastern.


History
Salzmann’s research interests include the history of cities, capitalism, and natural and built environments. He has published peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as book reviews and conference papers. Salzmann currently has a book titled “Liquid Capital: Public Policy, Private Investment, and the Making of the Chicago Waterfront” under contract with University of Pennsylvania Press, a premier press in the area of U.S. history.

Suresh Singh
Management and Marketing
Singh’s research focuses on strategy and international business. He has published several journal articles and has another article under review. He has given research presentations at numerous conferences and was awarded Summer Research Stipends by Northeastern for three consecutive years.

Shedeh Tavakoli
Counselor Education
Tavakoli’s areas of research include post traumatic stress disorder and veterans issues. Tavakoli has had several articles published in refereed journals. She has given more than 20 presentations at local, national and international conferences. Along with her research colleagues, Tavakoli was awarded a Research Community Award from Northeastern.


Accounting, Business Law and Finance
Xian’s research interests include executive compensation, tax accounting and financial reporting quality. Xian has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals.
