Diverse: Issues in Higher Education ranking
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education has ranked Northeastern in 19 categories for graduating students of diverse ethnic backgrounds in its annual Top 100 Degree Producers rankings. Three of those rankings came in the master’s category for Area, Ethnic, Cultural, Gender and Group Studies, in which Northeastern ranked first in the nation among African American students, 10th in the nation among Hispanic students and fifth in the nation among all minority students. Northeastern’s undergraduate programs are ranked in 16 categories.

Open House Chicago
The and will serve as featured locations for the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s event on Oct. 14 and 15. The free annual festival offers behind-the-scenes access to more than 200 buildings across Chicago. The Carruthers Center will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 14 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 15. El Centro will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 14.
Legacy Award
Ensemble Español Founder Dame Libby Komaiko was honored with the inaugural Legacy Award during the on Sept. 26. The dance service organization created a loving tribute video in Komaiko’s honor. Ensemble Español has been in residence at Northeastern for more than 40 years.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month drive
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, students of JUST 321 (Violence Against Women), the Angelina Pedroso Center and the Justice Studies Department are collecting new and unused products for domestic violence victims and their children. Donated products will be delivered to Connections for Abused Women and their Children, a victim services organization that operates Chicago’s oldest domestic violence shelter. Donated products will be accepted Oct. 16-31 at the Angelina Pedroso Center (B 159) and the Justice Studies Department (LWH 4062). Donations may also be dropped off at the designated table in Village Square from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Oct. 16.

- Educational Leadership Program Instructor LeViis Haney published an article in titled “The Do’s and Don’ts of Reimagining Middle School.” Haney is principal of Joseph Lovett Elementary School in Chicago.
- The College of Business and Management has launched its Career Preparation Series that culminates with a Nov. 16 Career Fair. Businesses that wish to participate are encouraged to reserve a vendor table online.

Paul Taylor 2 will perform Oct. 20 as part of the Jewel Box Series. The dance performance, which is co-presented by the Ruth Page Dance Series, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus. A free preview performance for students will take place at 11 a.m.
‘This is Our Youth’
will debut “This is Our Youth” on Oct. 19. In meticulous, hilarious and agonizing detail, the play follows 48 hours of three very lost young souls in the big city at the dawn of the Reagan Era. “This is Our Youth” will be performed Oct. 19, 20, 21, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.\
Anthropology and careers
How can you turn an Anthropology degree into a job? Find out at 3:05 p.m. Oct. 17, when Carol Ellick will give a talk titled in Golden Eagles. Ellick is an international expert in archaeological education and public programs. Currently a member of the Anthropology faculty at the University of Maryland, Ellick is co-author of “The Anthropology Graduate’s Guide: From Student to Career” and runs personalized career workshops and boot camps across the United States and Canada.
Goodwin Lecture
Nationally recognized financial expert Terry Savage will participate in a discussion titled “The Savage Truth on Money, Markets and the Economy” as Northeastern presents the second installment of the Daniel L. Goodwin Distinguished Lecture Series on Oct. 24. Savage writes a weekly personal finance column syndicated in major newspapers by Tribune Content Agency, and her columns also appear on Huffington Post. Savage makes frequent appearances as a money expert on CNN and other national television and radio programs, commenting on the financial markets and current economic events, and she is featured on WGN Radio and WGN-TV in Chicago with a weekly personal finance segment.
