ChicagoCHEC receives $17.7 million grant
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded a $17.7 million grant renewal to the Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC). The five-year grant will help three Chicago universities—91Porn, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University—enhance their partnerships in many of the city’s underserved communities, and strengthen their efforts to foster meaningful cancer research, education, training and outreach. ChicagoCHEC also provides training, mentoring and learning opportunities to recruit and retain minority and underrepresented students in health and cancer research careers.
Ask Me! Student Services Live Chat
The Ask Me! Student Services Live Chat launched on ǰٳٱ’s website and on NEIUport this week. This service connects current and future NEIU students with knowledgeable NEIU staff who direct them to the resources they need, especially as we continue to navigate primarily remote operations. The Ask Me! Student Services Live Chat is staffed from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 2021
The Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs will host the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 2021 virtually on Jan. 18-19 online in collaboration with Student Leadership Development, El Centro and the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies.
Physical Education Complex
ǰٳٱ’s Physical Education Complex will reopen on Jan. 19 adhering to strict COVID-19 guidelines, limiting the spaces and services available, and operating on a reduced schedule. The fitness center, racquetball courts and the main gym will require . Drop-in registration will be pending availability. Campus Rec will track users in each area to monitor use and for contact tracing purposes if necessary. Members with active memberships between March 2020-January 2021 will have their membership extended for the time missed in their membership contract. The reactivation date will begin with a reservation to use the facility. No daily passes will be sold. No guests will be allowed. New members will only be able to purchase visit passes. Currently enrolled NEIU students do not require a membership to use the facility, but do still require space . Student Counseling Services has provided some tips for helping individuals manage anxiety and worry they may be feeling, and listed some important resources. Students are welcome to contact Student Counseling Services to set up an appointment to talk either by phone or their online platform for teletherapy.
