On a mission for education

Oscar Ramírez never had a Latino teacher growing up. Not in grade school, not in middle school and not in high school. Nunca. That all changed when Ramírez, the son of Guatemalan immigrants, enrolled at Northeastern and realized what his education had been missing. Now on the verge of earning his bachelor’s degree, Ramírez plans to pursue graduate school and eventually enroll in a Ph.D. program in Education Policy to influence policy in a manner that expands opportunities for Latino youth in culturally and linguistically responsive ways. about his incredible transformation into a man of action.

Four fellows for ChicagoCHEC

The Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative will kick off the inaugural Summer Research Fellow program on June 20 with the participation of . The ChicagoCHEC Research Fellows program is a comprehensive paid eight-week summer learning experience for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students from Northeastern, Northwestern University, University of Illinois at Chicago, and the City Colleges of Chicago.

Facilitating conversations

Three Northeastern students to participate in the Kettering Foundation's Fostering Deliberation on Campus Research Exchange on July 11-12 in Dayton, Ohio. Daniela Artega (Communication, Media and Theatre), Rachel Hall (Inner City Studies master’s program) and Tara Shedor (Communication, Media and Theatre master’s program) will have the opportunity to learn from leaders of a nationally respected organization on how they can facilitate conversations that lead to collective decision-making.

More passion

In the days leading up to Ensemble Español’s highly anticipated “Flamenco Passion” performances, the published a feature on the Northeastern resident dance company. “Like the proverbial mighty oak,” critic Laura Molzahn wrote, “Ensemble Espanol grew from a little acorn of passion.” The Ensemble also was highlighted in the “10 Things To Do” weekly feature.

‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’

Stage Center Theatre has debuted its summer production of The play will run June 17 at 7:30 p.m.; June 18 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and June 20 and 22 at 10:30 a.m.

‘Flamenco Passion’

Ensemble Español’s popular “Flamenco Passion” live dance and music performances return to the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts from June 17-19. These performances are part of the company’s that runs through June 25. This year’s “Flamenco Passion” performances feature more than 40 dancers, musicians and guest artists in a fusion of classical, traditional, contemporary and Flamenco styles.
