Climate and culture survey
As part of its efforts to embrace a culture of inclusion, Northeastern launched a campus climate and culture assessment on Feb. 25 to evaluate its living, learning and working environment. (See the breakdown of participation on the NEIyou site.) When the survey closes on March 30, the resulting assessment will allow NEIU to improve its campus climate by addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities identified in the assessment. Newspaper awards
The Independent student newspaper won three awards in the non-daily with enrollment greater than 4,000 category during the Illinois College Press Association conference on Feb. 22 in Chicago. The awards were:

Midwest Conference on Mesoamerican Archaeology and Ethnohistory
Northeastern will host the 43rd Annual Midwest Conference on Mesoamerican Archaeology and Ethnohistory on March 6 and 7. This conference brings together archaeologists, ethnographers, art historians and other scholars interested in the prehistory, history and cultures of Mesoamerica. This year, conference presenters come from universities in Iowa, Illinois and Kentucky. The conference will begin March 6 with a welcome reception and a keynote presentation titled “Bones, Heads, and Eyes: Maya Ritual Display of Body Parts in Northern Yucatan” by Dr. Virginia E. Miller of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Presentations will be March 7 in BBH 102, followed by a reception.
