New GIS/Cartography Instructors
We are happy to have two excellent GIS/Cartography instructors joining us for summer and fall! They are Daniel Huffman for GES 377 Computer Cartography (Second Half Summer 2019) and Andy Donakowski for GES 391 GIS I (Fall 2019). We would like to share with you their experiences and qualifications in this field.
Daniel Huffman received an M.Sc. in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (UWM) in 2010. He has taught introductory cartography for several years at UWM. In addition, Daniel freelanced for a variety of clients, from international corporations to first-time authors. He served as the Director of Operations for the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS) and the Assistant Editor of Cartographic Perspectives, the open access journal of NACIS. Daniel also co-founded and edited the Atlas of Design, a biennial anthology of some of the world's best cartographic design. We hope you will enjoy exploring the creative cartographic work from his .
Adobe Illustrator will be the main software used this summer.
Andy Donakowski is a G&ES alumnus and received his M.A. in Geography and Environmental Studies and a Graduate GIS Certificate in 2015. Upon finishing his degree requirements, Andy has worked in a number of GIS positions and has further expanded his GIS and professional skills. He worked as a GIS Intern with the Cook County Forest Preserves, an Engineering Technician with the Army Corps of Engineers, a Research Assistant with the Metropolitan Planning Council, and most recently a Policy and Planning Specialist with the Friends of the Chicago River. We look forward to the technical skills and professional experiences Andy will bring into the GIS classroom!
