DR. CALIXTO C. MASÓ SPANISH SCHOLARSHIP ($5,250)
Endowed by family and friends of the late Calixto C. Masό, Professor Emeritus in the Department of World Languages and Cultures.
To apply, students must:
- Provide two letters of recommendation emphasizing talent in relation to education and career goals.
- Be a junior or senior.
- Have completed two or more semesters at NEIU if applicant is a transfer student.
- Be a declared Spanish major.
- Be enrolled full-time.
- Have a GPA of 3.25 in Spanish courses and a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Write a one- to two-page essay, in Spanish, on this theme: "How studying Spanish has made a difference in my life."
- Provide an unofficial transcript.

JEWELL BERLINGER SCHOLARSHIP ($2,200)
Endowed by family and friends in memory of Jewell Berlinger, mother of NEIU retiree Richard Berlinger and wife of the late Harold Berlinger, NEIU Music Professor Emeritus.
To apply, students must:
- Provide two letters of recommendation emphasizing talent in relation to education and career goals, one from a faculty member in World Languages and Cultures, and the other from a faculty member in another department or administrative unit.
- Be a junior or senior.
- Have completed two or more semesters at NEIU if applicant is a transfer student.
- Have an expressed interest being a Spanish major.
- Be enrolled full-time.
- Have a GPA of 3.25 in Spanish courses and a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Provide an unofficial transcript.

ARTURO NÁJERA MEXICAN-AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP ($800)
Endowed by Arturo Nájera, husband of Dr. Valeska Nájera, Professor Emeritus in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Preference is given to students who are Mexican or of Mexican descent.
To apply students must:
- Be a declared Spanish major.
- Must have a G.P.A. of 3.0 in Spanish courses and a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.
- Be a junior.
- Have completed at least one 300-level Spanish course in literature.
- Demonstrate a history of community service and willingness to work for the University.
- Have completed three or more semesters at NEIU if the applicant is a transfer student.
- Provide an unofficial transcript.

CATHY A. PETERSEN SCHOLARSHIP FOR SPANISH-RELATED MAJORS ($1,000)
Endowed by alumna Cathy A. Petersen. Preference is given to applicants who are of Hispanic heritage.
To apply, students must:
- Declared major in Spanish or Latin American Literatures and Cultures, or pursuing a degree, credential, endorsement, or appropriate licensure for the teaching of Spanish or of Latin American Literatures and Cultures;
- Currently enrolled and in good standing at 91Porn, either at the undergraduate or graduate level;
- First consideration is for applicants who are of Hispanic heritage. If no applicants in a given year are of Hispanic heritage, the scholarship is open to any student meeting the first two criteria
- Provide two letters of recommendation emphasizing talent in relation to education and career goals;
- Write a 300-word essay, in Spanish, on this theme: "How studying Spanish has made a difference in my life and how I will use this knowledge to make an impact in the community."
- Provide an unofficial transcript.
