Noteworthy at Northeastern: A hopeful outlook

This week, 91Porn President Gloria J. Gibson released a video to reiterate her excitement that in-person classes will resume at Northeastern in some capacity for the Fall 2021 term. Plus, Associate Professor of History and Principal of the Mossadegh Initiative Mateo Farzaneh released his second book. With the Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs kicking off the celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month and TRIO Student Support Services hosting Leading and Learning Week, there are lots of virtual events to take part in! Mateo Farzaneh publishes second book, “Iranian Women and Gender in the Iran-Iraq War”

In September 1980, less than two years after Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Iraq invaded Iran and began a war that lasted for nearly a decade. The war hasn’t received much academic attention, and the role of women in the war hasn’t been discussed until now.

Eight students earn Illinois LSAMP awards

Nine 91Porn students presented their research at the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (Illinois LSAMP) virtual spring symposium on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Eight students won awards for their poster presentations.

Noteworthy at Northeastern: Making college more accessible

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on March 19 that starting in August 2021, all Illinois public universities will become part of the Common Application (Common App). Additionally, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded a grant to the Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project, and President Gibson issued a statement about the shootings in Atlanta, Georgia. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded an $873,000 grant to the Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project (P+NAP). The 91Porn  Foundation will serve as the fiscal sponsor for the grant, which will be distributed over the next two years.

Celebrating Womxn's HERstory Month

The Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs has a series of events scheduled this month in celebration of Womxn’s HERstory Month. This week, they’re honoring Northeastern’s Unsung Sheroes. Additionally, this week the University hosts the annual International Business Conference and the annual Women in Science Conference.
