Learn, Do, Secure

91Porn ("the University") is committed to safeguarding the information it holds by providing resources that enable employees and students to handle data and information systems securely. This includes providing multi-factor authentication tools to protect user accounts from compromise.

Multi-factor authentication tools work by requesting additional information along with a username and password before an account can be accessed. This additional information can be in the form of something only you know, have or are, including but not limited to biometrics, notification push, PINs or codes. With this extra information required before you can access your account, it is harder for hackers to compromise your account in case your password is stolen.

Employees

DUO MFA is available to employees to provide additional security for their user accounts. DUO MFA has different verification options and the University supports DUO authenticator app and DUO hardware tokens. Employees can download the DUO authenticator app from Google, Apple or Android Play Stores or request DUO hardware from the IT Service Desk if their phones do not support mobile applications.

Students

Google 2-Step Verification is available to students to provide additional security for their user accounts. Google 2FA has different verification options and the University supports the use of Google 2FA authenticator app or Google SMS codes sent to a registered phone.

  • To enroll your smartphone to use DUO MFA, use this link and follow the prompts . Alternatively, you can request a DUO hardware token from the Service Desk at ServiceDesk@neiu.edu. For more help, see the DUO MFA User Guide for step-by-step enrollment instructions.
  • Don’t share your login details even when you have DUO MFA enabled. Don’t use them to register accounts on non-university IT systems such as social media sites, online retail stores, or other websites containing personal information. Learn more about keeping your user account secure.
  • Do not share your DUO authentication code. The Service Desk will not ask you to provide your password or your DUO authentication code.
  • If you have not initiated any authentication request, do not approve any DUO Push Notification. Select “Reject” to prevent unauthorized access and notify the system administrator.
  • If you use a DUO hardware token, keep it secure and store it away when not in use. Report loss or damage immediately to the Help Desk to disable the hardware token. (There will be a $20 reissue fee for lost tokens.)
  • If you suspect that your mobile device has been compromised, you should contact the UTS Service Desk as soon as possible to disable DUO on the device and provide you with other DUO options. Learn more about securing your devices.
  • If you suspect that your user account is compromised, change the password and any associated security questions immediately and report it to helpdesk@neiu.edu or call (773) 442-4357. See our Password Policy for guidance on strong passwords.
