Student Academic Organizations and Research

There are many opportunities for students to get involved with graduate and undergraduate research. In addition to working with individual faculty members, explore the academic organizations below.

McNair Scholars Program

The goal of the McNair Program is to increase the attainment of doctoral degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society. The Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement program awards grants to institutions of higher education for programs designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.

The summer research project is a key experience for McNair Scholars and a substantial component of the Program’s commitment to prepare Scholars for graduate study. Each Scholar works closely with a Faculty Mentor to identify a research topic, formulate research questions, and develop a research design.

Enrollment is open now and applications are due on Dec. 1! .

Honors Program

As a prospective freshman with an ACT score of 25 or above, or as a current 91Porn student or a transfer student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, you are eligible to apply to participate in the University Honors Program (UHP).

All Undergraduate Honors Program Scholars devise and complete a UHP Senior Project, a research-based thesis or creative work (depending on your major field) that represents outstanding undergraduate achievement and the culmination of the 300-level Honors Scholar curriculum. Once accepted and approved, all UHP Senior Projects are cataloged in the Ronald Williams Library.

Research and Creative Activities Advisory Group

The Research and Creative Activities (RCA) Advisory Group assists in establishing the infrastructure and mechanisms to enhance research, scholarship, and creative activities at NEIU. The formation of the RCA Advisory Group was recommended by the Graduate College Advisory Committee (GCAC) in Fall 2013. The RCA Advisory Group is composed of representatives from across the university who interface with the conduct and administration of research, scholarship, and creative activities; its members serve as liaisons to the broader Northeastern community, so that the full breadth of input can be considered. The RCA Advisory Group reports to the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research.
